Unity — First Steps in Game Development

The club introduces students to the basics of game creation in the Unity environment. Participants learn how game scenes, objects, characters, the camera, physics, and interactions between game elements work. The classes help students understand the basic logic of game development and see how an idea gradually turns into a finished game project.

The program aims to develop students' subject-specific and key competencies through creating computer games with the modern Unity game engine

The main objectives of the program are to develop the following competencies:
‣ cognitive: acquiring knowledge of object-oriented programming in C# and of the Unity engine and environment; learning to navigate ways of finding and selecting game components and objects for modeling game characters, and to define their main properties and the methods of their interaction; developing skills in finding algorithms and data structures to organize interaction between characters and with the game environment, and in identifying physical laws and mathematical formulas that can be applied when creating a game world;
‣practical: developing skills in applying acquired knowledge to programming game characters and scenes; developing skills in programming algorithms and data structures, analyzing code, creating visual and sound effects, programming data structures and implementing algorithms in C# in Unity, applying design patterns and Unity-specific classes, using inheritance and polymorphism to program game characters, event-driven programming, UI programming, the math library, and physics components when creating game characters;
‣creative: developing creative abilities through designing a game idea, designing gameplay, creating visual effects, and designing the game's look and interface;
‣social: improving teamwork and communication skills, critical thinking, the ability to help others, present one's own work, and take part in discussion; developing the ability to communicate actively with the instructor and other group members to achieve maximum productivity, and the ability to share acquired knowledge and to publicly explain and defend one's ideas and results.

The program content focuses on the practical application of knowledge in mathematics, physics, computer science, and English; building programming skills in C#; creating one's own computer game applications using visual environments; and developing independent creative inquiry.
